The legendary Charlie Daniels Band performed their greatest hits, as well as paid tribute to the veterans of the United States of American before an energetic crowd of around 700 at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater on March 17, 2018.
Daniels thanked the Paramount for being so supportive of the military, by giving members complementary tickets for every show through the VetTix program.
“I want to thank the management [of the Paramount] for giving 50 tickets to the military. I think everyone ought to do that,” Daniels said.
Daniels recalled how he first started gaining respect for the armed forces during Pearl Harbor and has had a great admiration for them ever since.
“I was listening to this big four model radio, and all of a sudden everything cut off, and the music cut off and this news broadcast started coming across with very scratchy tones with short-wave radio from Hawaii telling us that the Japanese Imperial Airforce had just bombed our naval base in Hawaii. I was much too young to grasp the import of what had happened, but I knew it was something very serious.”
Throughout the course of the show, as those in attendance danced, sang and cheered, the band performed its most notable songs including “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”, “Long Haired Country Boy” and “Simple Man”. Daniels even did a rendition of Elvis Presley’s famous song, “It Hurts Me”.
“Overall the show was amazing, the musicians were amazing all around. The guitar player, the piano player, the bass players, and Charlie was good of course,” Paramount Patron Jay Dean said.
Despite Daniels being 81, patrons who have been following his journey throughout the years say that he is just as good as when he started
“He is really amazing for his age,” Dean said. “His voice is amazing.”
Patrick Jones opened for the band, the patrons enjoyed the personal stories he incorporated into his music.
“He was good, very personable. He had a beautiful hat, I wish I had his hat,” Patron Tim Donovan said.
Patrons also appreciated the Paramount theater for giving them easy access to great shows.
“This theater continues to put out good shows constantly. It’s great for the area,” Donovan said.
