Rusted Root and Toad the Wet Sprocket Rock the Paramount
JAMES MIRANDA, Featured Writer
Platinum selling artists Rusted Root and Billboard-ranked Toad the Wet Sprocket performed live as part of their summer tour last Thurs., August 25 at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill, NY.
Rusted Root was founded in 1990, but didn’t achieve fame until 1994 when they released their album When I Woke, which went platinum. The group-of-five are best known for genuine, yet classical rock music and their musical freedom allowing them to blend different genres together.
Their roster currently consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Michael Glabicki, bass guitarist Patrick Norman, percussionist Liz Berlin, backup vocalist Cory Caruso, and guitarist Dirk Miller.
“[Rusted Root and Toad the Wet Sprocket have] been around for a long time,” said patron and Monroe, NY resident, Rob Lennon. “They have a Natural and organic feel to them. It’s like they’re not performing, but just having fun up there.”
Rusted Root was not the only ones having fun during the show, however. Approximately 600 members of the audience were seen dancing either in their seats or in the aisles of the theater; especially when their hit song “Send Me On My Way,” which was featured in the movie Matilda, began.
“I think [Rusted Root] is great,” said patron and Gardiner, NY native, Robert Ritacco. “They have a good sound and everything meshes well together. I like the intensity of the lead guitarist. They’re music has a feel-good vibe to it.”
Toad the Wet Sprocket has a similar style and sound as Rusted Root, whom they shared the stage with.
The group-of-four has an extensive history together including multiple splits and reunions since their 1986 inception. Their music’s been tried and true through the years, however.
Lead vocalist Glen Phillips, lead guitarist Todd Nichols, bassist Dean Dinning, and drummer Randy Guss performed their lyrically superb music to wrap up the show including hits like “Walk on the Ocean” and “All I want,” which were both ranked on the Billboards.
