The mellifluous voice of legendary R&B, soul, and soft rock musician Boz Scaggs filled the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater on August 26. Scaggs charmed his audience with long-time classics and new material as part of his 2016 tour.
Sue, from Yorktown, said she “grew up with [Scaggs].” During the course of the night Sue got to hear her favorite songs by Scaggs: “Georgia,” “Lowdown,” and the acclaimed 1977 single “Lido Shuffle.”
Eileen, from Cortlandt, showed up wearing a “Lowdown” t-shirt. She and her friend Mary have been Scaggs fans since the 70s. They both like Scagg’s lyrics and said they especially love his 1976 album Silk Degrees.
Boz Scaggs started off the night with “Runnin’ Blue” from the 1971 album Boz Scaggs & Band. After a warm welcome by the Peekskill audience, Scaggs announced he would take them through a “musical map” with classics and “maybe a few surprises.”
Michelle, from Mahopac, said her husband is a big fan of Scaggs.
“When Scaggs’ first album came out, my husband ended up having to buy it three times because he would just wear the vinyl away from playing it so much,” Michelle said.
She said it was “moving to see him listening to Scaggs’ music with our 24 and 22 year-old sons” and then being able to attend the concert. She also complimented Scaggs’ singing.
“His voice is so smooth,” Michelle said. “He has a very unique voice; it’s easy to listen to.”
Bruce, from Oxford, CT relived his early musical memories and complimented the theater’s acoustics. He listened to Boz Scaggs in high school. “Loan Me A Dime” is one of his favorite Scaggs songs.
